A Message from our Principal

Preschool/Extended Care Registration

Hello Falcons,

The 2014-2015 school year is off to a great start! Students and teachers have classroom expectations and procedures established and are now busy learning their essential standards. Some terms you will hear from your students’ teacher are District Formative Assessments (DFAs) and reteach and enrich. Students take DFAs every week or two in reading and math. If they receive four out of five items correct, they attend enrich the following week. If they receive less than four out of five, they attend reteach so they can master the standard without falling behind. If students are still struggling with a concept after reteach, their teacher may recommend them to afterschool tutoring, which will begin the first week in September.

Last spring, we surveyed parents about developing a signature program for Festival Foothills. Our school was set to benefit from the charter school conversion of two schools in Wickenburg. The survey results showed parents wanted a program focused on math, integrated into the regular classroom, and emphasizing critical thinking and problem solving skills. Unfortunately, the legislature reduced the funding amount during the last legislative session, but with the money we received, we purchased a three-year subscription to DreamBox Math for students in first through fifth grades. We have been using Knewton for sixth through eighth grades, but we recently found out that it is no longer an option due to changes in their program. We are currently using Khan Academy for sixth through eighth grades for free until we find a program that meets the requests from the parent survey.

Please read our August newsletter to stay up to date on school information. Don’t forget, you can always find out more information about our school on this website and on our Facebook page.

Take Care,

Christina Strauss
